What your Sade Sati result means
Sade Sati is the period when Saturn transits the three signs around your natal Moon sign. Saturn spends roughly two and a half years in each sign, so the three signs together come to about seven and a half years — that is where the name comes from. Traditions link it with themes of discipline, responsibility and slow, steady work. How it plays out differs a great deal from person to person and depends on the rest of the chart.
The answer depends on today’s date, not only on your birth details, so the same person can get a different result a few years from now. This calculator reports today’s status only. It does not list start and end dates.
If you do not know your birth time, your Moon sign may still be certain — the Moon changes sign every two to three days — but on days when it changes sign, the result can differ between the start and the end of your birth date. The calculator shows both when that happens.
How to check Sade Sati by hand
- Find your natal Moon sign (Rashi): the sign the Moon occupied at birth. The Moon stays in a sign for about two and a quarter days.
- Find the sign Saturn occupies today from a current ephemeris. Saturn spends about two and a half years in each sign, so it is worth checking rather than remembering.
- Count from your Moon sign to Saturn’s sign, treating the Moon sign as the 1st.
- Saturn in the 12th means the rising phase, the 1st the peak phase and the 2nd the setting phase. Any other position means Sade Sati is not active today.
How this calculator decides
- It finds your natal Moon sign in the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri), then finds the sign Saturn occupies today.
- Rising phase: Saturn is in the sign before your Moon sign (the 12th from it).
- Peak phase: Saturn is in the same sign as your Moon.
- Setting phase: Saturn is in the sign after your Moon sign (the 2nd from it).
- Any other position means Sade Sati is not active today. Whole signs are used; degrees are not.
